This story was originally published on Wordpress in October 2020, and this new version has been revised before publication. It is a follow-up, technically a prequel, to my short story “White Saffron.” I got my inspiration for this piece from an image prompt and my then-recent reading of Madeline Miller’s Circe. It’s also inspired by the Alnwick Garden in England, specifically the area known as the “Poison Garden.” Today’s story exists in the specific and rather enjoyable subgenre of “a supernatural figure kills the hell out of some Nazis,” and I quite enjoyed upping the ante on weirdness and gruesomeness this time around. This one is not for the faint of heart, if I do say so myself. Enjoy!
